Temporary Library Arrangements
Work has begun on re-cataloguing the Library. Our aim is to transition during 2012 from the current spreadsheet catalogue listings for each of the RMC/SOCS and former MCSI libraries to a fully searchable OPAC system hosted by Softlink/Liberty that enables keyword, author and title searches.
The size of the library (currently around 12,000 titles) and the limited availability of trained staff mean that this will take most of 2012. We would ask you to bear with us while we effect this improvement.
At present and until we have completed the re-cataloguing of the MCSI library, it will be necessary to search in three places to locate a book. They are:
- The new Liberty catalogue that contains the re-catalogued MCSI titles plus any new acquisitions.
- The MCSI spreadsheet (which will contain overlaps with the Liberty system).
- The SOCS spreadsheet.
Since the great majority of our students are studying online across a wide range of units, we are happy to arrange to send up to three books at a time for a three week borrowing period. When you borrow, you will need to save the packaging and return address label and post the books back within three weeks of receipt. Until the new system is fully in place, requests for titles should be emailed to the Librarian at socs@rmc.nsw.edu.au.
Extending the loan period may be possible if no-one else wants them. To arrange this you will need to email the Librarian at the above address.
If you discover titles that are not currently available and would benefit you in the unit(s) that you are studying, we would be pleased to hear from you. Our acquisition program seeks to ensure that we cover most, if not all, the titles in the bibliographies of each unit that we offer. The chief limitation will be the library budget in any one year.
Searches for journal articles should continue to be made through the EBSCO (ATLA & ATLAS), ERIC and TROVE databases to be found in the secure Student Resources section of our web site.
